We all want to go to new places in our families, relationships, careers – in life. The barriers that prevent us from going to new places typically either get avoided, or if we choose to face them, we do so poorly. To create breakthroughs, we must face the barriers head on and handle them well. The key is not in a one-time solution, but in everyday decisions that strengthen. Daily decisions that strengthen our relationships, kick-start our careers, and improves our health.

Join us throughout the month of January as we seek to create everyday breakthroughs that allow us to go to new places.

WK 255// 010812// RELATIONSHIP BREAKTHROUGHS

Advisory Team Member and close friend of Crosspoint Scott McDonald joins Curt this weekend in the setup week for this new series. Explaining how we’re wired to handle difficulties in relationships and communication poorly, Scott and Curt discuss how taking the time to have a difficult conversation can lead to a healthier, happier relationship… and life.

Scott McDonald joins Curt again this week to discuss breakthroughs in our careers. Everyone seems to have a dreaded “public enemy #1″ or “Darth Vader” in their work place. But, rarely do we see that the “stories” we’re most likely making up about these people have become truth to us… when they’re not factual at all. We all tell stories that we start to take as truth. Finding the corrective action to break the cycle is the trick to breakthroughs in our careers.

Have you ever felt like an unlikely candidate for something that was put in front of you?
Have struggles ever tempted you not to follow through?
Has an event of magnitude brought new light to a situation?

In “A Flicker of Hope” we follow the Christmas story adapted from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke from the unique perspective of the donkey who carried Mary and the unborn baby Jesus to Bethlehem at the request of Gabriel. Donkey’s role of friend, protector, and unlikely messenger give insight into the heart of service that runs through the nativity story.

Written and illustrated to spark conversation for the whole family, Donkey’s story isn’t just one of the excitement of the birth of the Christ but delves into some of the more deeply seeded issues of losing faith in yourself, God’s provision and strength, and spiritual warfare present in many people’s lives today.

We hope that you find this story able to fit into your holiday schedules and perhaps even create a new holiday tradition for you and your family.

Merry Christmas!

Sunday Morning worship gatherings currently meet at Fall Creek Intermediate School at 9 & 10:30am. When you join with us feel free to grab a cup of coffee on your way in and bring it with you into the auditorium. If you’re bringing your kids, you might want to show up a few minutes early to get them checked into our dynamic children’s environments before you settle into your seat. We’ll have great music, low lights and easy exits if you change your mind.

But, worship is more than just an hour in an auditorium… It’s more than singing… acting… art… feeling… Singing is to worship as Q-tip is to cotton swab. It’s just one of many forms. And, if you don’t know all the words to these songs we’re singing… that’s OK! We’re all new around here so learning is part of the game.

We view our Sunday morning gatherings as a launch pad for life change. The conversations begin here. But, we take it with us as we go.

GOD is moving in our community.
And we get to be a part of it!

Join us any Sunday at 9 or 10:30.

SUNDAY @ 9 & 10:30AM

Not everything you want shows up wrapped in shiny paper with ribbons and bows does it? Real life rarely seems to work like that. Things usually happen unexpectedly… Stuff gets messy… unpredictable… and sometimes fantastic!

Beginning THIS SUNDAY, we’ll be taking a look at some of the icons of the Christmas story that fit those criteria. These icons are things we still see and value today, but perhaps for different reasons and in different ways than originally intended.

Join us as we look at these seemingly regular items that give us glimpses into another reality. A reality of harmony with GOD.

+ PODCASTS

WK 249// 112711 // THE STAR

If you’ve ever heard the Christmas Story, then you probably know that the “star” led the “wise men” to Bethlehem. But, did you know what astronomers believe that star to have been? Do you know the significance for the star? It’s a concept that often gets missed, but the star appeared to bring others (the non religious Jews) into the plot of the Christmas story. Take a listen as teaching team volunteer Julie Buchtenkirch explains the significance to this cosmic event.

WK 250// 120411 // THE FIELD

“…and there were shepherds in the field tending their flocks…” Again, we’ve all heard it. But what happened in that field on that night was not something normal. Angels (big burly, warrior type angels) appeared to the shepherds (the lowest of the low, non-land owning, working third shift, was not uncommon for them to steal the flocks they watched, hired hands) inviting the worst of the worst into the excitement of the Christ’s birth. This week Lead Pastor Curt Walters explains why these “rough” men were afraid and the hope that comes when all are forgiven.

Download audio file (250XPT_120411.mp3)

WK 251// 121111 // THE INN

There’s a pretty good chance that the inn keeper that we know of in the original Christmas story is a made up person to depict the fact that “there was no room in the inn” as the Bible says. But, that’s not the point. The point is that no matter where Mary and Joseph stayed, someone… an innkeeper, a family member or friend, or just a kindly person from Bethlehem made room for the birth of the king. This week, Curt Walters asks if we’re making room for the king this holiday season.

Download audio file (251XPT_121111.mp3)

WK 252// 121811 // THE GIFTS

The magi came from the east because of an interruption. The shepherds went out and told everyone what they had seen because of an interruption. They all gave gifts to the this new born king in worship because they recognized the significance of the interruptions they received. GOD intended holidays to be just that… interruptions in the regular pace of life to experience moments of rest. It’s an act of worship and when we recognize the interruption and give thanks to GOD for it, we’re worshiping him just as the magi did with their gifts.

The story of hope. It’s not one for a particular moment in time… the here and now. It’s for all of life, for all of eternity, for everyone. We see that Jesus came for all through the different parts of the Christmas story and 2,000+ years later it’s just as true as it was in year 0.

This year 50,000+ people are saying that they’re tired of being tired.
They’re tired of being worn down and weak.
They’s standing up and joining together to get STRONGER.

All over the mid-west churches are exploring together what it means to be stronger in faith and how living a life like Jesus showed us makes us stronger in all aspects of our life. What Jesus taught us about living… it’s a journey, a goal, a challenge.

Join us for this 6 week challenge as we look at all aspects of our lives and get real about finding strength that we didn’t know we had.

+

The Strong Challenge depends on “Home Teams” – small groups of up to 12 people who meet weekly to talk about what they’re experiencing on the journey.
Every Home Team has a Host: someone who welcomes people into their home-or another suitable location-for six weeks during the journey.

So you can either join a team or host one. (Hint: host one! It’s fun and easy.)

WK 243// 101611 // PLAY STRONG

It’s hard for us to find time to play isn’t it? But, the very first thing that we see GOD tell his people to do, like the first people, is to REST. To RECREATE. To SABBATH. See, GOD created us to experience joy. He created us to play and when we don’t play well, or don’t leave time to play in our schedules, then we miss out on part of what GOD has in store for us. Listen as Curt Walters explains that fun and play are part of what roots us to GOD and his purposes in our lives.

WK 244// 102311 // PRAY STRONG (Crossroads Audio)

Prayer gets us in sync with the heart of GOD. It’s nothing knew to know that as you spend time with someone you learn their mannerisms. The same is true with prayer. As we focus time with GOD, our hearts get lined up with his. And it’s important that we learn to listen not just tell GOD what we want.

Unfortunately, Crosspoint’s teaching audio is unavailable due to technical difficulties this week. We’re working to fix the problem, but in the mean time, track along with this week’s teaching from Brian Tome, lead pastor at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati.

Learning is part of growing strong no matter what you’re trying to grow in. In this week’s podcast, Lead Pastor Curt Walters makes connections to what it’s like when you apprentice with someone to gain knowledge in a particular field. With local Chef Jeff Meaux giving a visual cooking demonstration throughout the morning, they two explain why learning under someone’s care is important to strength and how reading the Bible then doing what it says is how we “apprentice” under Jesus.

When you go to the gym and do “circuit training” or “cross training,” you get stronger than if you just go and run. Your body develops muscles from the stretching and tearing in the regrowth time and when you work different muscle groups, your body gets into better shape. The same is true with some of the lesser known spiritual disciplines like fasting, silence, and confession. Listen as XPT volunteer and teaching team member Julie Buchtenkirch explains how these not as known disciplines help build your spiritual muscles.

There’s a difference between “service” and “surrender” that we often miss. When we offer to serve, to use our talents or abilities, it tends to be on our own terms. But when we surrender something, including our talents and abilities, the focus for the use of those things changes. When we wave the white flag in our lives and let GOD be in control, things change. This week Lead Pastor Curt Walters is back at the table explaining how a live of surrender outweighs a life of service.

We’re tackling some of the all-time toughest objections to faith.

We probably all have at least one major unresolved question we need to wrestle with in order to go to a new place with God. Crosspoint is designed to be a place where we can all seek God, regardless of our starting point. Unfortunately, many of us have never had a healthy seeking process modeled for us… or a place do so. No matter your thoughts on God, Jesus, church or religion…You’re welcome here. We’ll have great coffee, loud music, low lights and clearly marked exits if you change your mind.

Join us for this four-week teaching series as we tackle some of the all-time heavyweight objections to faith and wrestle with what we find.

9.18: Doubt vs Belief

9.25: Science vs Faith

10.2: Love vs Sex

10.9: Hell vs Grace

WK 239// 091811 // DOUBT V. BELIEF (Audio Unavailable)

Doubt is part of it. It’s one of the steps that helps us grow. We have to think, learn, & explore on our own or we begin to take things for granted. In this lead off week to the Heavyweights series, Lead Pastor Curt Walters explains that wrestling with tough questions deepens our faith rather than destroying it.

WK 240// 092511 // SCIENCE V. FAITH (Right click to download)

Many people see that Science and Faith can’t coexist. In this week’s teaching, Curt invites local scientist and Intelligent Design expert Bryan Hunt to join in the discussion of how science and faith do, in fact, play off of each other. Referencing material from Intelligent Design theorists, Ben Stein’s Expelled, and astrological phenomena, there’s a lot to wrestle with.

WK 241// 100211 // LOVE V. SEX (Audio Unavailable)

Love and Sex are two difficult topics that the church typically shys away from… or at least doesn’t do a good job of talking about. This past weekend Lead Pastor Curt Walters laid out some of the difficulties that come with trying to find a clear understanding between the two. The Bible draws some clear lines to define both.
